We are so pleased to announce that Shining Hope Farms has received a grant from the Carrie E. and Lena V. Glenn Foundation to support our Therapy Services program at our Gaston County location in Mt. Holly.
The purpose of the grant is to continue our efforts of creating equitable access to equine assisted therapies in our area. There is a high demand for equine assisted therapies, and we are also acutely aware that these therapies are often financially out of reach for many families, including families that already have considerable expenses for other therapies and services. Our goal has always been to make our programs accessible and affordable to these families and the grant will help us in this endeavor.
Our Therapy Services program includes the rehabilitative services of occupational, physical, and speech therapy as well as mental health counseling. In both of these services a specially selected horse is often incorporated as a treatment modality to help patients reach their goals, a strategy called hippotherapy. We are also happy to be partnering with Bit of Hope Ranch in Gastonia by providing occupational therapy services at their location under Shining Hope Farms. We started this satellite location in 2016 to make our programs more accessible to people in western Gaston County.
The Carrie E. and Lena V. Glenn Foundation was established in 1971 by sisters Carrie and Lena Glenn. Since 1972 the Glenn Foundation has granted $8.779 million to 256 organizations for 976 different projects and services.
