Special Olympics at Shining Hope Farms
Shining Hope Farms together with the Special Olympics of Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties offers a Special Olympics Program.
This video, from our 2017 Special Olympics, is a great way to see what this program is about.
This year’s show was held on Saturday, July 8, 2017. Please contact us for information about the 2018 show.
Riders receive four complimentary weekly lessons sponsored by The Special Olympics and the program culminates in a Regional Equestrian Invitational Horse Show at the Mecklenburg Farm. Participants include individuals from Gaston, Mecklenburg, and surrounding counties. The event enables participants to show off their talents with family and friends, to bond with their teammates and coaches, and to have a good time.
The riders are amazing to watch as they steer through obstacles such as weaving cones, crossing a bridge, riding through a gate, going around a barrel, backing their horse through two narrow poles. Classes have included showmanship, equitation, dressage, and working trails available for both independent and supportive riders.
