We’re so grateful that your group is interested in volunteering at Shining Hope Farms! Please carefully read the work day FAQ below, then fill out the form at the bottom of the page.
What kind of work would the group be interested in doing?
We usually have several activities for the group to be doing, depending on the needs of the programs and the nonprofit organization. For example, we need help with the following tasks: horse-care related activities, gardening type activities, building, fencing, and some general maintenance and cleaning of the facility. We try to allow our volunteers to assist in the activities that they enjoy.

What kind of budget/funding do you have allocated for the workday?
We generally ask for $35 per person to cover the cost of the workday, but we may need more depending on the project type. Shining Hope Farms does not allocate any funds to pay for work groups because we want to make sure that almost every dollar in the budget goes to serving our clients. This amount is the going rate to cover costs with the work group, as per the United Way and Hands on Charlotte. These funds allow us to provide tooling/materials associated with the work day.
What materials are needed for group work days?
Our workday coordinator can provide a materials list for you to purchase using a corporate account or card. The second option is to allow us to handle it. We can purchase everything and have it ready to go for a “turn key” work day. Shining Hope Farms does receive special pricing at some retailers which allows us to stretch your donation up to an extra 20% on some items. We can provide a tax-deductible letter for the donation upon receipt of a check or an “in-kind” receipt letter for goods. Checks can be mailed to the address below.

With regards to the budget for the day, where will this be allocated?
These funds will be allocated to pay for tooling (rakes, shovels, etc), materials (horse care items, cleaning supplies, project materials, building materials), and staff supervision. It can take up to 8 hours for a staff member to plan and prepare before a work day even takes place. This time goes into project planning, item preparing and assembly, item pickup, and work group communication. Please contact us if you have any further questions.
